This blog is started in the fall of 2012 by me, an anthropologist student on her fieldwork in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, leading up to her masters thesis. Through this blog I try to get a broader knowledge about the members of the church, and connect to new people in other ways than I do in my everyday observing and participating methods. I have my point of exit in the church in Aarhus, which is the second largest city in Denmark. But as this is a comparative, multi-sited fieldwork I also travel across the sea and visit Salt Lake City, Utah to meet even more members and learn about the church in the US.
The role of the Anthropologist
As a cultural anthropologist it is my job to get to know the "life world" of the people that we write about. I'm of course interested in the theology of LDS, but mostly how you live the religion and what your thoughts are. I hope that you will see this as an opportunity to tell about your religion and maybe clear out any isunderstandings.
I know that I'm no objective observer, but I too am a human being, an individual that because of my history, my gender, age and more have a lot of things that are a part of my fieldwork. For an anthropologist it is important to use yourself as a tool, since it is your own eyes and ears that have to find and understand what is important in the field.
The reader's role
I hope you will get an impression of me and what I try to do, on this blog, and then I hope you will teach me about yourself and your religion.
